Payours is a bill-splitting app designed to help users seamlessly manage shared expenses with friends, roommates, families, travel groups, and colleagues. It simplifies the process of tracking, calculating, and settling bills, ensuring that everyone pays their fair share without confusion or disputes.

PROBLEM STATEMENT AND GOAL

Managing shared expenses is a common pain point for friends, roommates, families, and colleagues. People often struggle with tracking who owes what, handling reimbursements, and ensuring fair payments without friction. Existing solutions can be overly complex or lack essential features tailored for real-life scenarios.

Goal

To design a seamless, user-friendly app that simplifies bill splitting, provides transparency, and ensures quick and fair payments among users.

DESIGN THINKING PROCESS

The design thinking process for Payours followed an iterative approach—empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test, and implement—to create a user-centered, intuitive bill-splitting experience.

User Research Process

Methods Used: Surveys, interviews, and competitor analysis.
Target Users: Friends, roommates, couples, travel groups, and business teams.

Key Findings:

  • Users often forget to log expenses, leading to disputes.
  • Transparency in shared payments is crucial.
  • Need for multiple payment options.
  • Simplicity and automation are essential for adoption.
Ideation & Feature Planning

Based on research, we prioritized:

  • Easy bill entry and automatic split calculations.
  • Payment reminders and tracking.
  • Multiple split methods (equal, percentage, custom shares).
  • Integration with payment services (Venmo, PayPal, bank transfers).
  • A transparent ledger for accountability.
